This commentary goes over well with the men in the audience, rooting for the "good son", encouraging him to beat the crap out of the pretty boy and to "go for the face!" this prompts Hayami's girl fans to cheer him on, telling him to "beat that ugly guy" and "give that momma's boy a KO". Before Ippo's match with Ryuuichi Hayami, Hayami (a ladykiller with tons of female fans that pack the stadium) is given roses, while the commentator briefly goes over Ippo's background as a high-schooler who helps his mother with their fishing shop. The plan works perfectly, with a thoroughly cooled-down Ippo going limp as steam rises from him. Before the fourth round, Kamogawa tells Ippo he hasn't given up, and enacts a plan to cool Ippo down- by pouring a bucket of ice down Ippo's trunks. Ippo's match against Kenta Kobashi goes badly for the first three rounds, with Kobashi's hit-and-run passive boxing style wearing Ippo down while keeping him in the lead by points- the fight frustrates Ippo and compels him to waste his stamina.Later, Ippo manages to duck Takamura's hook, ready to counter- only to be stopped by Takamura briefly switching sports from boxing to wrestling and delivering an elbow-drop.Kamogawa: Listen, just dodge Takamura's hook. ( to himself) It's no use- this is happening no matter what. Ippo: You want me to spar with Takamura!? We're seven weight classes apart!! I'll die if he hits me!!
